Affirmative actions is dividing us in ways its creators could never have intended because most Americans, like me, who do support equal opportunity and are not biased don't think it's fair for discriminate against some Americans to make up for historic discrimination against other Americans.

Affirmative actions policies have gotten out of hand. Instead of focusing on outreach and nondiscrimination as originally conceived, they have become synonymous with quotas, reverse discrimination, and naked racial preferences. All of which are opposed by the overwhelming majority of Americas white population. Affirmative action has turned more into antiwhite discrimination. Bob Zelnick writes, Affirmative action discriminates on the basis of race, gender, or ethnicity against whites, males, and other unfavored groups. And yet today official discrimination is one of the most pervasive and powerful of government policies, denying Americans jobs, career and educational opportunities, even handicapping their ability to bid on government contracts unless they fit into one of the preferred racial or ethnic categories.

The Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution reads No states shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of the citizens of the United States; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws. This seems to be at odds with affirmative action policies since the rights discussed are framed as the protected rights of all individuals.
